United Farm Workers Back Councilmember David Ryu’s Re-Election Bid
LOS ANGELES, CA -- With two weeks until Election Day, today Los Angeles City Councilmember David Ryu announced that his campaign for re-election has gained the endorsement of the United Farm Workers.
Remarking on its endorsement, the United Farm Workers President Teresa Romero said that Councilmember Ryu’s “support for the farmworker movement is appreciated and we are proud to endorse your candidacy.”
“The United Farm Workers have historic connections to our communities in Southern California, and I am so proud to have their strong support,” said Councilmember David Ryu. “From their initial organizing fights in the early days of Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and Gilbert Padilla, to their recent victory to secure overtime pay for California’s thousands of farmworkers, we can always count on the United Farm Workers to stand up and fight the rights of working people.”
Since launching his re-election campaign, Councilmember Ryu has announced endorsements from 300 community leaders, Planned Parenthood & dozens of women leaders, The Los Angeles Times, environmental groups, the Democratic Party & local Democratic organizations, U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff and prominent congressional leaders, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti & fellow Los Angeles elected leaders, state legislators, County elected officials and the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and over 30 individual labor unions.
